Jay is one of the most accomplished American grapplers in the sport and his teaching ability reflects his success in competition. Jay is highly technical and his teaching style is on par with anyone in the world. After training at 22 different schools across the U.S. before choosing my permanent home, NJ United is right up there with any of the big name gyms Ive been to and definitely THE place to train in New Jersey

Jay re-introduced me to Jiu JItsu and the reasons I loved it. His teaching is the best I have experienced in my 8 years of training. Great instructor and competitor.

Jay is one of the best instructors out there. He also practices what he preaches... the man has brought home tons of titles and championships. Jay has a deep understanding of the basics which he will make sure you incorporate into your game before showing the more advanced techniques. Whether you are looking to compete or just to train to lose weight and have fun, Jay Hayes and his academy will be a perfect fit for you.

Jay's style of teaching is unmatched, he is so good at breaking down every little detail that makes or breaks a move. Best instructor, best coach... hands down

Jay Hayes is the man! I agree with all that was already said. It's an easy recommendation to send someone to Jay; the way he teaches and conducts all of his classes are world class, and help make everyone and anyone feel welcome and safe. I'm lucky to have Jay as my coach and instructor. You should be so lucky! (and you can be!!)

Jay is very professional and dedicated to his students. He has an amazing gift of teaching BJJ so even someone with no experience will learn a lot from him and understand. He explains the moves very well and is easy to talk to if you need extra help. He always supports his students at the competitions and is a great coach and mentor.

After taking about two years off of training I was a bit hesitant to get back into it. But after meeting jay Hayes and taking a trial class I new that I had made the right decision. He is extremely talented, and yet very mellow and humble. A big reason why I train with jay outside of the reasons posted above me ( which are all completely right) is jay emphasizes the team atmosphere in the gym. There is no egos to worry about, his academy is a fun and safe place to learn a very effective martial art. High reccomend this man. This sport has changed my life and I have jay Hayes to thank....so thank you jay!

Jay is a talented grappler and an excellent instructor. His teaching style is clear and effective. You can always find him walking the mats during drills, fine tuning his students' technique, and offering encouragement and advice. In the time I've been there, I don't think I've ever heard him say a single negative thing except maybe that he's put on a couple pounds. His academy is like the Cheers of the BJJ world, where everybody knows your name and they're always glad you came.
